Lately only a few songs in tamil impress me. The last good album I liked was Vaaranam Aayiram. I don't know if the quality has reduced or just that there are not as many great movies coming out which demand the quality of music which prevailed few years ago.
Yuvan and Harris are the only music directors I look forward to these days other than Dharan on whom I have a lot of hope after he smashing debut in Sivi. While Yuvan is not consistent I feel a tad bit more confident with Harris' albums. I'm not talking about AR Rahman here because I don't think he's going to be approached for normal tamil movies anymore after his Oscar twins. And honestly I don't want him to do movies like Azhagiya Tamizh Magan or Sakkarakatti. He's better off doing albums like Connections and coming up with music videos with Rajiv Menon or Bharat Bala.
As long as there are two biggies, Mani and Shankar, we can be sure to get some Musical Tranquility. But coming back to recent music, I am hooked on to this song from Sarvam called Katrukkule. Its a haunting melody by Yuvan and sung by himself too. The rain drops in the background create a mesmerizing aura.
