Please welcome the Indian Hulk

Isn't there an amazing similarity between the two posters ??? Well one thing we can be proud of, even though the poster idea is clearly inspired from Hulk, is that Ghajini has the "Real Aamir's" bulked up body while Hulk has CGI effects one...

Are they gonna sell Ghajini action figures too ??? Might not be a bad idea actually

Promising Delhi - 6 Promo

RDB was one of the most brilliantly made movies ever. I've even lost count of how many times I watched it.

Now Rakeysh is back with the teaser for his next movie "Delhi - 6", and going by the first impression I think this movie is gonna be as sensible and sensitive as RDB. The whole story of this guy Roshan travelling to India with his ailing Granny, and his short trip becoming the longest journey of his life where he discovers India and himself reminds me of Swades. But from his interviews its clear that this film is going to have political overtones which would certainly make it interesting.

Very slick, stylish, different moods, frames and shades of the movie captured in a minute is what came to my mind when I first saw this teaser. Loved Mohit Chauhan's humming and the lilting music by ARR. The shot where a grand gate is opened and we see New York with Sonam standing in White dress was very imaginative. I guess that might be part of a song. The cinematography looked brilliant in these short clips, especially that of Jama Masjid and the pigeon ( symbol of peace ?? ). Looking forward to 2009 for this movie...But till then Gajini...

Power Saving - A message from Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam

Came across this very valuable advice from Dr. Abdul Kalam which if followed can bring in lot of good to not only companies but also countries.

Now there's just one concern I have regarding this. I personally have issues with booting computer everytime in the morning. It might be because of a superslow computer I have or it might just be the computer boot up time. I wanna go to the office, switch on and boom I wanna see the screen. Hate to see the windows screen. Bogs me down. So it'd be great if either the brainchildren ( plural for brainchild ) behind comps come up with a faster boot up technique or they invent a way where the comp consumes much lower wattage in sleep mode.

May be in the near future....

Just seeing his name alongwith Hans Zimmer and James Newton Howard gives me goosebumps. This is truly a great feat by any Indian music composer till date, and who better deserves it than Rahman. I'm very happy that all his hardwork has got noticed and is getting its due respect. SdM is undoubtedly an amazing score, very entertaining, got an innovative mix of genres, and on top of all... very Indian at heart.

Ghajini 'n' Rab ne Banana Di Jodi - Astrological Antagonism

So I was browsing today to find out if any early reviews have popped up for the much awaited RNBDJ. Unfortunately none as of now, but I sure did come across an interesting article which speaks in length about two biggies of this christmas, RNBDJ and Ghajini. It was comparison in many angles. Although I didn't care much about most of the comparisons as they were talking about history, current situation of producers, their new looks, new actress and so on, I was pulled into one comparison which I thought was pretty influential and vital. No its not the director or the music. Its the biggest name in the universe Mr. Niraj Mancchanda, Milky way Galaxy's most renowned astro-numerologist. He, apparently from his calculations using latest technologies such as Abacus, has come up with this comparison -

Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi comes up to number 42. Dil To Pagal Hai came to the same number 42. Everyone knows the box-office prospects of Dil To Pagal Hai and with a good title, Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi has good chances at the box-office”.

About Ghajini Mancchanda says, “ Ghajini sums up to number 17. The fate of number 17 can be summed up by the film Saawariya which came to the same number. Much like Saawariya lasted only till the craze of Ranbir Kapoor survived, even Ghajini will last only till the craze of Aamir’s new look survives”.

So there you go folks. The Man has said it. According to him RNBDJ should be a hit in the lines of DTPH, even though musically its nowhere near it, and Ghajini should be a flop like Saawariya. How is this man still in the business ? Even in bad times like these ? Does that make his profession the most stable one of all? Now what happens if his prediction goes down the drain ? Can we kick him hard in his butt ? Or should we just leave him to do his thing, as the reason for his survival is the aam junta who believe in him. They believe in him coz according to the poor souls, if they succeed with his recommendation, its becoz of him, and if they don't, then its their bad luck. You know what. I've heard of guys on crack make more sense than that.

Now check this out, stars such as Isha Gopikar and Sunil Shetty changed their names as per recommendation to Eesha Koppikhar and Suniel SHITty. So in other words, these stars went to such a low level that they even didnt mind to change their good names to ridiculous and dumb ones. Thanks to Niraj. Now will he do the same if his predictions keep failing? If so then I have a suggestion, how about Niraj Mancchandi ?? :)

Having said that I am eager to watch both films. I personally favor Ghajini as its gonna be different, has Aamir in it and has got rocking music by ARR. However I'd also watch RNBDJ for SRK and may be for Adi. I don't trust YRF any more as they are constantly coming up with Duds. Lets hope for the best !!!

What is this small cylindrical thing on most power adapters ??

Over the last few months I've been intrigued to learn a lot about all sorts of electronic stuffs. Things which I used to play with on a daily basis became my subjects of exploration. I guess mostly its because of my new job where I'm surrounded by geeks and nerds. And being in the RF Engineering dept I think its important to know about each and every electronic circuit, or atleast have an understanding about the circuitry. And thats how I stumbled across the Ferrite beads.

I'm surprised that even though I've been using power adapters, and various cables connecting to computers and other equipments, never once did I ask myself, "What the hell is this ugly cylinder doing in the cable ??". I guess I was self contended in assuring myself that Ignorance is bliss. Not anymore though.

So now for some technical mumbo jumbo. The small cylinders are nothing but ferrite beads, sometimes called Chokes. Their main function is to reduce RF or Electromagnetic interference. The purpose is to suppress Common Mode Noise. Let me paint a clearer picture. Computers have Oscillators in them which can potentially broadcast radio signals at their frequencies. This makes them noisy(interferers). Also because of the length of the cables which makes them long antennae, they can now carry these signals. The signals can very well interfere with TV and radio. The cables due to the same antenna property can also receive signals and trasmit them into the computers/laptops. Thus ferrite chokes/beads are placed at the end of the cables to eliminate the RF interference. They have the function of capturing or choking the signals and convert them to heat.

Heyy now we've learnt something new :).

Finally the trailer I expected from Ghajini

Dr. Manmohan Singh's response to Terrorism

I don't understand whats stopping the Congress to come up with an action plan to try and abolish any terrorist activity waiting to happen in India, or Mumbai for that matter, as unfortunately its the most affected city. It really hurts me coz whatever be the motto of the terrorists, be it against the govt. or for their freedom, or Kashmir, I don't really care...thousands of innocent people are getting killed or injured. Their family has to go to several hardships to get back to their routine life and who knows will they ever get back to that. Now that this is out in the global scene, its even humiliating to see the responses of our politicians to these attacks. While one douchebag feels these kinda small incidents happen in big cities, the other is busy with his son's shooting.

All I want is atleast in times like this, the govt. must do something for the people, from their heart within.

Peace and prayers.

Installing Husband 1.0 - A Desperate's Anxiety

One of my colleagues sent me this very cute and incredibly funny forward which I thought had to be in my blog. Its very creative and totally relatable for both men and women :). The plot is simple, a Desperate calling Tech Support and complaining about issues she's having after upgrading Boyfriend 5.0 to Husband 1.0. Enzzoy

INSTALLING A HUSBAND

Dear Tech Support,

Last year I upgraded from Boyfriend 5.0 to Husband 1.0 and noticed a distinct slow down in overall system performance, particularly in the flower and jewelry applications, which operated flawlessly under Boyfriend 5.0.

In addition, Husband 1.0 uninstalled many other valuable programs, such as Romance 9.5 and Personal Attention 6.5, and then installed undesirable programs such as NBA 5.0, NFL 3.0 and Golf Clubs 4.1.

Conversation 8.0 no longer runs, and Housecleaning 2.6 simply crashes the system.

Please note that I have tried running Nagging 5.3 to fix these problems, but to no avail.

What can I do?

Signed,

Desperate.

Response from Tech Support :

DEAR DESPERATE,

First, keep in mind, Boyfriend 5.0 is an Entertainment Package, while Husband 1.0 is an operating system.

Please enter command: ithoughtyoulovedme.html and try to download Tears 6.2 and do not forget to install the Guilt 3.0 update.

If that application works as designed, Husband 1.0 should then automatically run the applications Jewelry 2.0 and Flowers 3.5.

However, remember, overuse of the above application can cause Husband 1.0 to default to Grumpy Silence 2.5, Happy Hour 7.0 or Beer 6.1.

Please note that Beer 6. 1 is a very bad program that will download the Farting and Snoring Loudly Beta.

Whatever you do, DO NOT under any circumstances install Mother-In-Law 1.0 (it runs a virus in the background that will eventually seize control of all your system resources.)

In addition, please do not attempt to reinstall the Boyfriend 5.0-program .These are unsupported applications and will crash Husband 1.0.

In summary, Husband 1.0 is a great program, but it does have limited memory and cannot learn new applications quickly. You might consider buying additional software to improve memory and performance. We recommend Cooking 3.0 and Hot Lingerie 7.7

Tech Support.

3 Idiots !!

I wonder what happened to Munnabhai Chale Amerika..oh thats right..Munnabhai could not go to Amerika...so picture shooting abhi bhi baaki hai mere dost. I guess in the meantime RajKumar Hirani started his other project named "3 Idiots". I didn't pay much attention to it until I stumbled upon the first look. With all math formulas on the board, the tagline "Chase Excellence - Success will follow.." hidden among them and a kid immersed into it, the first poster is pretty intriguing and has made me take notice of this film. I wonder who the kid is and also what the story is. It stars Aamir Khan, Kareena Kapoor, R. Madhavan and Sharman Joshi and is based on a famous novel, Five Point Someone by Indian writer Chetan Bhagat. Lets hope for some awesome intellectual entertainment.

Requiem for a Dream

This has to be one of the saddest fuckin unbelievably amazing artistic film I've seen till date. I mean what more can you think of a film which is totally zero on hope and high on dope . Having said that I have to agree that this is a brilliant film with some intense soundtrack, crisp editing and arresting cinematography. Its montage style execution with split screen techniques and extremely short shots makes this a very special one.

Thanks to god I've never been in the shoes of the 4 characters of the film, and I don't know if there can be any other movie which can depict the slow self destruction of people due to Addiction so well and so close to reality than Requiem for a dream.

For those who think ah this is another drug movie, get this straight. Its so not a drug movie. What it shows is four people who have a fantasy or a dream, and then their addictions not only get in the way, but completely destroy them. So in short its a movie which hits you hard, freaks you out, moves you and leaves you thinking in the end. Highly Recommended !!

Its Dev D after No Smoking's K

Last year glamorous Bollywood witnessed the release of the so called biggest Box office turkey, the dark, gloomy and totally absurd "No Smoking". Many hated it, few loved it, but everyone discussed about it. Many critics thrashed it and I just felt pity for them for their miniscule peanut sized brains that couldn't decipher the hidden metaphors of this enigmatic movie. Anyways in the future we'll surely remember it as one of those cult movies, a movie which dared to be different from the rest. After watching No Smoking again and again and again, I became a huge fan of this "David Lynch" of Bollywood. And I came to know from one of his interviews that he was making Dev D with Abhay Deol. I just don't know how time passed by but the next news about the movie I read was that the trailer is out.

So what is this movie all about. Dev D is Anurag K's take on Sarat Chandra Chattopadhyay's classic Devdas, and thankfully its poles apart from the boring and sleep-inducing SRK's Devdas. Anurag has used Devdas as an adjective and not as a work of literature or cinema; it’s a look at relationships through the phenomenon that is Devdas. While the original Devdas was an alchoholic, our Dev is a full on drug addict. Sounds quite interesting right ?? You don't have to pull your brains to figure out how it'd be as he presents us the first trailer of Dev D.

I thought that was ek dum solid Funtastic trailer. Dev seems like a man in his own imaginary world, not giving a fcuk to what others say or think, similar to K in No Smoking !! The shots with camera attached to the body was awesome. The color scheme used is neat, kinda European movies style. But above all the most fascinating part of the whole trailer was the music. It was spot on, high energy, very addictive. No wonder its by Amit Trivedi, the man behind the amazing soundtrack Aamir. It seems Dev D has a kickass soundtrack of 15 songs comprised on a variety of genres... wooohoo...musical feast!!! Now all this certainly makes it a movie to watch out for next year.

P.S - Did u notice the start of the song...ek do teen char chey !! No paanch, which happens to be AK's first movie which never got to see the light...man the more we pay attention, the more we discover. Way 2 go AK !!

Anurag Kashyap: When people hate No Smoking, they hate it with passion. They write pages on why it doesn’t work. They compare with Kafka’s K, they talk about how it deviates from Lynch or they’d critically dissect k’s character in the movie. Do you get the compliment? You can only hate something so fervently only when it moves you as much.

Slumdog Millionaire - a vibrantly wonderful film

Got to watch this incredibly brilliant film, Slumdog Millionaire, on thursday. I have to admit that I haven't watched Danny Boyle's Trainspotting or 28 weeks later, both of which are critically acclaimed and claimed to be classics. The only reason I got interested in this movie was AR Rahman. I was totally unaware of this project at the beginning, and then started this buzz that a film based on India got rave reviews in London film festival. Further digging into the subject revealed the fact that the music was composed by our own Rahman. What more can I say, this movie got added to my list of "everyday updates".

SdM is a movie based on a novel Q&A by Vikas Swarup, an Indian Diplomat. Set in India, it tells the story of Jamal, a "Chai wala" working in a call center, who becomes the biggest quiz-show winner in history, only to be sent to jail on accusations that he cheated. The movie goes on to tell us how by drawing from the experiences of his own short, yet turbulent and sometimes cruel life he, essentially a slumdog, managed to answer all the twelve questions that led him to the jackpot, and more importantly get his girl.

As this was a free screening, the line was pretty long and most of the audience were non-Indians. I think I just spotted one or two desis, which made me feel special, one of the very few Indians for a movie based entirely on India. There are many reviews giving pretty high ratings for this movie and believe me it truly deserves it. Every scene and detail has been handled very carefully. Even things like subtitles (as there are initial scenes of children completely in hindi) was done so playfully and colorfully. You won't find them at their usual place with white colored fonts, instead they go around the big screen in a way that you concentrate on the scene as well as the words. Master stroke !! Also I loved the way the music blended with the movie. It was a big opportunity for Rahman to showcase his talent and he has pulled it off brilliantly. The background score was amazing. There were times when I didn't know if it was Danny Boyle's direction or Rahman's music which made the scene either so romantic or so intense. I think it was a perfect marriage. There are two songs featured in the movie which give a breath of fresh air amidst moments of heartbreak, tragedy and drama, MIA Paper planes song which comes at an important juncture of the film and the grand Bollywood song-and-dance number which comes right at the end. Danny Boyle makes sure that everyone leaving the theater leave in their best spirits and with a wide smile of their faces.

Another highlight of this movie is its memory narrated structure. It keeps going back and forth from the game show to the jail to Jamal's past experiences, all of them culminating at a pulsating finale. Acting also needs a special mention, as everyone right from the young children did a fantastic job. For about an hour or so the two young kids carry the entire movie in their shoulders which was incredible. Their scenes actually were the most impressive for me and touching. And then there were veterans Irfan Khan and Anil Kapoor who did their part with great panache. Latika(Freida Pinto) was simply beautiful and Jamal(Dev Patel) was extremely believable and so relatable. I'm sure we'll see more of this young lad in the coming years.

Now for the most unforgettable scenes from the movie :~
1) One of the most unforgettable and unimaginable scene fro SdM was the gross-out comedy sequence of youngest Jamal caught in a predicament when the big bollywood star Amitabh lands in a helicopter at the slums and he's stuck in the toilet ( restroom ), the only way to get an autograph being to jump in the shitttttt...You've gotta see the expression on everybody's faces...extremely hilarious.
2) Hindu's attacking Muslims in the slums. This showcased the brilliant directorial abilities of Danny Boyle.
3) The nail-biting sequence where Jamal's brother gets Jamal to the orphanage goonda to showcase his singing abilities, and how he rescues him.
4) The MIA-paper planes song sequence.
5) The magnificent Tajmahal and younger Jamal's story of how and why Tajmahal was built.
6) The railway station chase sequence with superb music.
7) The tension filled climax.
8) Finally the end credits fun filled Bollywood dance number "Jai Ho".

SdM is a journey through that part of India which is seldom seen or heard these days. It boldly showcases that section of people who are at the most neglected both by the huge Indian media and the government. I'm sure no Indian film maker would have dared to touch such a subject thinking about money prospects and for that I thank Danny Boyle for presenting this movie in such a delightful fashion. I hope he gets the gold, if u know what I mean. The underlining motto of this movie is Destiny. Whatever happens, happens for a reason and it is written to happen that way. Something which I personally believe in. Do you believe in that ???

SdM opens in select theaters on November 12th. Let the journey begin.

Guzarish - Ghajini

Actually this being an out and out action thriller, I was kinda disappointed by the first trailer. I was excited at first coz we got first few glimpses of the movie for which I was waiting over an year. Anyways now we get to hear a sample of the first song promo. It sounds pretty good in first hearing itself. So that means instant hit for sure. Also it takes me to Saathiya / Alaipayuthe days..like Hasti rahe tu hasti rahe tune. Instantly likable. Also the visuals are stunning. Looks like Aamir and Asin have a great chemistry together. Have to wait a lil bit more to make the judgement.

It reminds me of the video like O rey chori or Tu hi tu satrangi re...Isolated, deserted, just the 2 of them, romantically getting sunburnt :) ...I'm glad we are getting past the side dancers era. I seriously hate that. I mean if the main leads want to romance, sing duets, why the hell do they want some side dancers to see that ?????

Gajini First look

Right when everyone are swept by the Tsunami called Yuvvraaj, Aamir releases the first look of Gajini. To me this has doubled, tripled my expectations from the movie. We see a HULKed up Aamir sporting many tatoos with pictures of his past in the background. Pretty much tells us the story. I'm sure girls are gonna go bonkers over this new look of Aamir.

And this also means another good news...the music release is round the corner..

Yuvvraaj - The Musical released !!!!!

Music Director: A R Rahman
Lyricist: Gulzar
Label: T-series

-= TrackList =-

01. Yuvvraaj - Main Hoon Yuvvraaj
02. Yuvvraaj - Tu Meri Dost Hain
03. Yuvvraaj - Shano Shano
04. Yuvvraaj - Tu Muskura
05. Yuvvraaj - Mastam Mastam
06. Yuvvraaj - Zindagi
07. Yuvvraaj - Dil Ka Rishta
08. Yuvvraaj - Manmohini Morey
09. Yuvvraaj - Shano Remix

Initial fans reaction is mixed. Some love it, some like it while other's hate it. Many feel its the most different album in a long time because of the western classical ingredients in all songs. All this only reminds me of the time when Taal was released and how many just dumped the album saying things like boring, soulless an stuff like that. What happened after few weeks is history though. So thats great news for us.

As I always say if we like AR Rahman's album instantly, then its a Hit and if we don't like it in first listen then its a Superhit. There can only be two results.

I'm yet to listen to the songs. I've already ordered the album online. Till then unable to resist my eagerness to listen to the songs in high quality I am shamelessly downloading high quality version of the album. I think that's fair enough.

Presidential / VP candidates as ...

I came across this extremely funny comparisons of the current Presidential and VP candidates with various things we come across in our daily life. Its a forum where people can come up with their own creative comparisons. I'm gonna do one tonight, but till then enjoy the best ones of the lot. I'm sure the conservatives are gonna be mighty pissed seeing this...After seeing the first one you'll have an idea where these comparisons are going. This aint for all the republican admirers coz the laughing stock here are McCain and Palin :). So here we go the PVP candidates as -

Ovens :

The next one totally cracked me up soooooo much that you guys have no idea

Telecoms :

And finally the best of the best,

hahaha...I couldn't control my laughter seeing Palin's choochoo train..and it derailed also..hahaha...poor Palin

The Economist Sums Up Financial Crisis

I don't understand why people feel this way only during this financial crisis. I felt the same way when Bush first came to power, when Twin towers fell, when Gas prices started to go up, when Americans voted yet again for Bush , when Bush administration spent billions of dollars in Iraq war which went nowhere, and finally this financial crisis..Keeping all this in mind if still McCain comes to power, Oh F*** would lose its "power" of expression...we soon need to come up with something more puissant than that.

But yeah this crisis is killing me big time. And now Cramer comes on TV and tells us to take away all our money out of stocks. I pray for a miracle, but does that kind of thing exist in real world....hmmmm...I hope it does...

Yuvvraaj - Tu hi toh meri dost hai promo

For those who were awe-struck by the first promo of Yuvvraaj, here's another one which is gonna take u for a ride in the clouds. The tune we heard in the first promo is the song "Tu hi meri dost hai" which features in the second promo.

My short review would be - its beautiful, lovely, poetic and romantic. Brings a smile every time I listen to it. Rocking Salman, Stunning Visuals, and beautiful Katrina all add magic to this grand second promo of Yuvvraaj.

Yuvvraaj First Look

Kisna was pathetic. Yaadein was not even in my yaadein the minute i finished watching it. I haven't yet watched Mr. Ghai's Black and White. I don't think I'll ever watch it. But yet I am excited for his latest offering Yuvvraaj. And why ????

One thing for sure is AR Rahman. He's been having a great year so far both in hindi and tamil and still the best is yet to come. We also have Gulzar penning beautiful poetry to the tunes set by Rahman. And then yet again Subhash Ghai is coming up with a musical. His previous one being Taal which was brilliant in terms of music. So, AR Rahman, Gulzar and Subhash Ghai - isn't it already a music lovers dream??? Also this one has Salman and Katrina, I guess the current hot pair. I'm not so good at keeping up with hottest pairs in bollywood. They just keep changing everytime a new movie releases. And finally there's the one actor who looks more and more younger as he grows old, Anil Kapoor. Check out the latest outstanding trailer.

I think Subhash Ghai has a winner here. Atleast the promo looks very promising, with stunning cinematography mixed with great locations and an amazing tune in the background. Also the names appearing on violin was a brilliant stroke. Full marks for a great first promo Mr.Ghai.

Same Parents - Seven Lives Many Faces

One of the best ever songs from Enigma. The song starts off with a young girl asking some questions to us…Who is willing to answer him? Who’s willing to explain the never-ending nonsense wars to this innocence?
We all had the same parents,
Many million years ago,
Why can’t we live in FREEDOM?
Without hunger with no war…

The adult male spoken voice in this song sounds like when you're half asleep and someone's talking to you, but you're not sure whether it's in your dream or someone is trying to wake you up. Great Composition Michael !!!

Taare Zameen Par....abhi Oscar par

Finally the film federation of India jury made the right choice by sending TZP as India's official entry to Oscars. I'm glad Chak De, even though was a good movie, wasn't selected as its a blatant rip off of A League of Their Own.

Congrats Aamir and Amole Gupte !!!

Super Mario Rescues the Princess !!!!

Remember the old SEGA games Mario and Luigi ???

Remember the last level where he has to go below the dungeon and rescue the princess ?

The game always used to end with Mario jumping over the dragon and meeting princess. I never thought what would happen after that, I mean like how would they go out of the dungeon or will they ever go out. I thought the princess might marry Mario.

Well good news is that the answer is finally here...check out the video to know what happens after Mario finishes all the levels and meets the Princess.

LOLLLZZZZ !!!

The mind behind this video, Seth MacFarlane, creator of Family Guy and American Dad, is really really smart...although for me he's a notch below Southpark creators Matt and Trey.

These lines were really funny...I'm laughing whilst typing

Mario : Your the one who got captured by mushrooms
Princess : Ooooh, you leaped a bunch of mushrooms, I'm so impressed!!!
haha i love that
and then ....
Mario : You got kidnapped by something that goes on a salad!!
Lmfao
And yeah not to forget the awesome ending...hehehe...OK.. Dragon you can have her :):)

'Oktapodi': Impressive CG French Student Film

Came across this very original, impressive, and funny short animation video which the students of Paris' Gobelins School of Image produced. Its about two lovelorn octopi torn apart, and the lengths they'll go to to be reunited. I love the way they capture the village and octopi jumping over swimming pools.

Pixar, are you watching ???? These students ought to be in your extremely talented team !!!

Enigma - Seven Lives Many Faces released !!!!!

Ok ....I'm back...finally after a long vacation...Obviously there aint gonna be any fireworks or media coverage...I'm not that special...yet! But it just feels good to be back on the blogosphere. I missed blogging...really.

Our First anniversary, Parents visit, In laws visit, US tour, job hunt and then eventually change, apartment hunt and finally change, new car wreckage, Dark knight, Jaane tu ya jaane na, birthday, bomb blasts, Losing money on stocks. I've never been through such a time before and I wonder how me and my wife pulled it off.

Now I just wanna relax, settle down, take a nap in a private beach with less crowd, sippin on Corona w/lime. Ok what else am I missing.....MUSIC !!!!

And it happens at the right time. Michael Cretu presents us his seventh Enigma Project "Seven Lives Many Faces" today. I've already heard all the songs about hundred times when it got prescreening on myspace couple of days ago. Now I can't wait to grab the 2 Disc collection including the bonus tracks. Also today is the start of a new journey called EnigmaSpace.

You have to check out the site. Its fantastic! Never expected something as elaborate. I've been following enigma since 1995 and Michael never disappointed me. Infact he continues to surprise me more and more with his innovative style. Enigma 7 is an amazing album and its also touted to be the best of Enigma. I would however put it as one of the best, as my all time favorite is Cross of Changes. But we'll see. I havn't yet heard this one in the best of the best Bose Quality. So far I'm completely hooked on to "Same Parents", "Seven Lives", "La Puerta Del Cielo", "Je T'aime Till my dying day", and "Deja Vu". I'm sure in the next few days, the entire album will be playing in repeat mode. Also the artwork for this album is high quality, I guess their best Artwork till date.

As we all know, the best way to listen to Enigma is light some candles and find the trusty bass-boosting headphones for the "real" experience. Even if you're at work on my laptop, just close your eyes and pretend that you're not stuck in hell !! Thats the spirit of surrounding yourself with a enigmatic backdrop to hear the album.

So there you go...Now you can keep checking my blog every now and then to catch on some latest and interesting happenings ....Adios and happy listening

Jaane tu ya jaane na and ADA released !!!!!!

Two AR Rahman albums at the same time. Hasn't happened in a long time. The last I remember was in Tamil, Alaipayuthe and Kandukondein Kandukondein. I'm very very happy just for that one fact alone, leave aside the fact how the songs are. 18 songs are just way too much to digest. Every track I'm listening I can't forward or skip. I don't know when I'll finish listening and when I'll write about them.

My short review based on just one time listen is that Jaane tu ya jaane na carries a very contemporary fresh feel with simple and nice lyrics. For those who miss RDB's music, this one's a real treat. And ADA has some great instrumentation and ARR's song is top notch in this. However I felt 2 song were a bit outdated, but again I havn't heard them enough.

So for now happy listening and watch out for this space for a more elaborate review.

New promo from JTYJN

New promos, new excitement, new discussions, all add up to more expectations, and why not ?? we just have 2 more days for the soundtrack to release. This is the song based on the first promo's catchy music. The song's structure however is convoluted, or we can safely put it as Rahman's style. I'm sure its gonna be catchy after few listens and after hearing it completely.

Aamir Khan Productions' DOG

OK you might think I wasted my precious 30 mins in comin up with this picture, but when Aamir can waste his time and write a blog on his newfound dog, Shahrukh, and when many websites can waste their time and readers time in writing their views about his post, I think my hour isn't really wasted. I just wanted to come up with a catchy title to this post and in the process remembered SRK's DON...then few tweaks here and there and we get SRK's DOG :).

I understand a lot of SRKs fans are offended by this cheap stunt, infact its a shocker even to many who adore Aamir. Yes, its low for Aamir to make such a comment but you gotta agree that SRK isn't a saint either. He's poked fun at several revered film personalities before. And we all clearly know (if not, Justin Timberlake reminded us last year in his song) What goes around comes back around. Its all part of the game guys...tit for tat, giving him a taste of his own medicine.

Personally I think SRK is a great entertainer and performer, while Aamir is a great talented actor. And all of this is just a publicity stunt.
Cheap ? I guess,
Bad ?? I don't think so as its garnered enough attention.
Funny ??? To me :) bcoz I don't consider SRK as God like many others do and so it doesnt offend me, and just naming a dog Shahrukh sounds ridiculously funny. hehehe...

Is this gonna be a new trend ? naming pets after famous stars ?? I don't know..

As the song from Bombay Dreams goes -
Contradictions, City of extremes, anything is possible in Bombay Dreams !!!

P.S. -On a sidenote if you think about it, a dog is man's best friend, and by Aamir naming his dog Shahrukh, I think he tried to tell the whole world that Shahrukh is his Best Friend :):)

'Cricketers are no different from prostitutes' - Mahesh Bhatt

Whats he smokin ???? No seriously..I've seen guys on crack make more sense than him. This is the excerpt from Indiafm -

Says a character in Jannat, "Dekhiye Sir. Cricketers aur prostitutes ke beech zyada farq nahin hota. Donon ki jawani khatm to kahani khatm."

In fact producer Mahesh Bhatt is supremely gung-ho about this latest eyebrow-raising tryst with controversy. "Yes, those are the exact words in Jannat. And what's wrong with that? If you think about it, we're all prostitutes. And at least they deliver what they promise. I'm no different from a prostitute. I too am a pleasure peddler. And please, I'd rather be a prostitute than a saint," says the eternal celluloid renegade who has earlier whipped up a frenzy of controversies in movies like Arth, Zakhm and Woh Lamhe.

Ok Sir...I can agree on the fact that YOU are a prostitute, but that doesn't make all of us prostitutes. And what do you mean by saying that you would rather be a pros than a saint..well you aren't a saint for one, so that surely makes ur a pros according to your words...And how does the sentence "Donon ki jawani khatam to kahani khatam" which is for prostitute business relate to CRICKET !!!! In this world that applies to everything, living and non living things...every THING loses its charm once its old...why just cricket !!! So according to Mr. Butt the whole world is filled with prostitutes...or better than that...the whole WORLD is a prostitute...

The Incredible trailer from The Incredible Hulk

Seems like Edward Norton has bundled together a lot of amazing action sequences in this movie. I am really looking forward to this movie alongwith The Dark Knight, even though many of whom I know aren't really interested. And all the credit to make even hardcore Hulk fans run away from Hulk must go to Ang Lee's version. That movie didnt even have a solid Villain. And it had more of a documentary feel than action. Here we have a cool villain ( read creepy and scary ) Abomination. And on top of that its Marvel's second production venture after their first hugely popular and successful Iron Man. I believe even Tony Stark does a cameo in this movie.

I'm tellin ya this movie's gonna kick some serious ass... Btw did anyone notice this from the new trailers ? The previous hulk looked a bit sad, had short hair, and looked like he wanna cry all the time, while the new hulk is much more pumped up, like a ruthless, angry and fiery monster, and yes with longer hair. Atleast in that area they've made a faithful adaptation of the comic book.

"Smile" from Chaplin by Robert Downey Jr.

This song, for those who didn't know before...including me, was written by Charlie Chaplin himself, the man who brought smile on many faces. I actually came across this song while searching for Robert Downey Jr.'s Chaplin on youtube. I heard a lot about him recently due to his hugely popular IronMan movie. And that made me do some research on his old movies which landed me on Richard Attenborough's "Chaplin".

This version of "smile" was sung by Robert himself, and listening to it you can easily say that he's a talented singer as well. Downey's bluesy voice is full and soulful and it touches your heart quite instantly. I believe there were earlier versions of the same song, but I don't know if they'd be as moving as this one. I got goosebumps listening to it the first time.

I believe Charlie Chaplin was a very depressed man in real life, which is quite ironic looking at his screen image. Manic depression sucks. More power to those who fight and are creative in spite of it. Artist and writers have higher rates of depression. Guess creativity comes with a price. But what a gift, amazing !! Now I've gotta watch this movie.

Here's the lyrics for this enigmatic song -

Smile though your heart is aching
Smile even though it’s breaking
When there are clouds in the sky, you’ll get by
If you smile through your fear and sorrow
Smile and maybe tomorrow
You’ll see the sun come shining through for you

Light up your face with gladness
Hide every trace of sadness
Although a tear may be ever so near
That’s the time you must keep on trying

Smile, what's the use of crying?
You'll find that life is still worthwhile
If you just smile

That's the time you must keep on trying
Smile, what's the use of crying?
You'll find that life is still worthwhile
If you just smile

Innovative Promotion for Ada's music

Today I came across a news in Businessofcinema website that AR Rahman, Big Music and Nokia team have joined hands to give young Indians a chance to remix two leading tracks from Rahman's latest offering "ADA...a way of life". This is the first time ever that the beacon of Indian music is allowing listeners to remix his compositions.

More on this news - Click here

I think this is a brilliant way to promote the movie which other than AR Rahman, who's the only big name associated, has a list of unknowns/debutants to its credits. And guess what the Winner gets rewarded with......A chance to spend one day with the Maestro himself in his studio, to compose the remixed songs in Ada Soundtrack. Oh man !! somebody's dream is gonna turn into reality soon.

This is what Rahman had to say "India is full of talented young people and this contest is my way of unleashing their creativity. Nokia and Big Music have come up with a very interesting concept and I am looking forward to see how the listeners interpret my music and give it a new form."

I was sad when some of the memorable gems like Bose, Meenaxi, Tehzeeb and Kisna went kinda unnoticed due to either lack of publicity or lack of star value. But the story is different now with makers of several movies coming up with a wide variety of innovative strategies in promoting their movies. Good luck Rahman for both Ada and JTYJN, I'm sure your hardwork will get noticed and win you lot of accolades and more and more fans.

Here's Ada tracklist I found in the official website http://www.arrahman.com/. It's gonna be a musical treat with 10 songs !!!!!

ADA - A Musical Journey By A. R. Rahman

1. Ishq Ada (Male Version) - Rashid Ali, Raquib Alam(lyrics)

2. Ishq Ada - Parul Mishra, Raquib Alam(L)

Rahman's Jaane Tu ya Jaane Na and Ada

Rahmaniacs have a reason to celebrate now. Two albums are gonna release soon, may be in the month of May for which trailers are already out. Sakkarakatti is another awaited ARR album in Tamil. I guess Ada might be the first one to be out followed by Jaane Tu ya jaane Na. From the trailer it looks like JTYJN is gonna be a fun, rocking, peppy and youth album, may be in the lines of Rang De Basanti, which would be fantastic from Rahman. Ada seems to be more innocent, deep and delicate love story, so we can expect some mindblowing tunes from Rahman saab :). Here are the just released trailers -

Jaane Tu... ya Jaane Na

ADA - A Musical Journey By A. R. Rahman

Shauk Hai - Ethereal song from Guru

Some songs are melodious, some are beautiful, and then there are some which go on to touch hearts. Shauk Hai is one of those songs. It was quite unfortunate that this song didn't find place in the original Guru Cd. But it later got released in "A.R.Rahman - Greatest Hits" CD under Sony-BMG label.

Whenever I'm longing for something, I'm a bit down or feel voidness I take shelter in this song. It kinda injects confidence in me, makes me understand that there's more to life than this. The lyrics stress the importance of simple things in life which are actually the most precious things that we fail to appreciate in our daily lives. And that we only will understand if we come to know that one day the candle of our heart will stop burning. Thats precisely the story of Meenu from the movie Guru, which AR Rahman beautifully captured in his song. A Masterpiece !!!

Kobe Bryant jumps over Aston Martin..and so does Kenny Smith

Inside the NBA has got to be the best post game show there ever is. These three folks, Charles, Kenny and Ernie are absolutely hilarious. They always put on an awesome show and yesterday after the Lakers and Nuggets match, their show even got better when Kenny Smith challenged Kobe that he would also jump over Aston Martin like how Kobe did.

Charles asks him "Are you gonna jump over hot wheels" ..hahahaha..

But no !! Kenny Smith actually goes for the challenge and the end result is one of the most Friggin Hilarious videos I've ever watched...

Oh man..I was literally crying laughing..didnt see that coming at all. They showed it so many times the even Kobe couldn't control himself...check it out

Charles in the end "I'm guessing u r not gonna sell any of those shoes"
LOLOLOLOL....Classic !!

Kobe Bryant...who else can BE the MVP ??

Chennai defeats Mumbai in a nail biting finish

Wow..I was literally on my feet in my cubicle during my peak work hour when everyone's eyes were glued to their monitors looking at spreadsheets and other stuffs. What an exciting finish for a close match. My current favorites before the season started was Mumbai and Kolkata, but looks like our Chennai Superkings are one of the most strongest teams in this IPL tournament. They are also the highest runs scored team till now...Amazing !!! way to go Chennai !!
Check out the edge of the seat thrilling last over...the crowd went bonkers

Tashan - Da Moochik Revue

Last year the trailers of Tashan showed up in theaters and it seemed to be in the lines of Western gangster movies genre. The starcast and their getups were interesting. The roaring chorus chant in the background was full of energy and attitude. Naturally expectations were sky high for this album, adding to the fact that this was also from Yash Raj Films banner. Also VS have been giving decent hits in recent years. They also keep getting offers from big banners, which is good for them as they get to showcase their talent to a broader audience. Now having said all that, do they deliver in this album ? Does it have the expected ishtyle ? Lets see...

Dil Haara - I have to applaud VS for this amazing composition. From the promos the incredibly catchy chorus chant after a rocking guitar intro which goes like "Ooooooo Wo-Ho" marks the entry to this song. Looking at the setting of the song and the costumes, I thought this would be a total hardcore Rock song. But to my pleasant surprise this turned out to be a song with heart and a lot of depth taken to a different dimension by brilliant rendition by Sukhwinder Singh. Both the antaras and pallavis are top notch in this song and the supporting background music is very fresh and of high quality. The way the song ends in that high tempo crazy crescendo, one can't help but to jump out from the chair or increase the volume in the car and get into a state of complete madness. In the end I'm sure people will keep singing in their head "Dil haara re...dil haara haara dil haara haara...oh yaara re..."

Chaliya - This song takes off in a Hip hopishtyle mixed with Bhojpuri lyrics which go like "Naseela Naseela". It actually sounded pretty cool for me and reminded me of Abhishek Bachchan singing that type in some movie. The overall pattern of the song is on the lines of one of the songs from Cash, forgot which one. This song is tailor made for Sunidhi Chauhan as she is one of the few singers who can vary her voice to match the situations, like here she easily changes from a sensual start to a fun and frolic song. Overall a moderately enjoyable song which will have immense appeal on screen with smokin hot Kareena flaunting her Sex-pack Abs.

Dil Dance Maare - You want to know why this album is unique, listen to this song. An out and out fun song which I havn't heard in a while in Bollywood. A Bhojpuri folk song with exteremely funny English lyrics sung spiritedly by Sukhwinder, Udit and Sunidhi. The orchestration provided for this song by VS is fulltoo pumped up which can set the dance floor on fire. Regardless of how the visuals are going to be for this song, its a total entertainer. How did Vishal come up with such a lyrics? Must have been in a state of euphoria or something..I mean check this out "Hai cast of my feet Jo lamwa kare hai zalim beat" Lolzz...and then "Kadakti heat mein ban ja deet Nainan se nain mila re". I'm telling you...its insanely lovable lyrics...Fantastic composition !!! Mein very happy in my heart as my dil dance maare re...

Falak Tak - After some unusual songs we come to hear something which we all instantly love..a simple innocent melody. Udit Narayan is back after a long hiatus as this song totally belongs to him. If its a Yash Raj Banner we got to have a romantic song, and so do we with Falak Tak. Apart from the vocals by Udit and Mahalaxmi iyer, the accompanying guitar and basslines are magnificent. I'm sure this will be the favorite song for many because of it uncomplicated and easy-on-ears tune. However it doesn't stand up to the other melody from a flop movie by YRF last year, Bol na halke halke. Somehow I think when it comes to melodies its just two people who stand out - AR Rahman and Shankar Ehsaan Loy. And the rest, including VS, try to get there, but just can't...atleast till now.

Tashan Mein - The last and phinal song of the album. Once again VS tried to bring out a song with different flavor, but I guess this time they went just a little overboard. The starting portion is cool as it sounds a bit Cowboyish. But then as the song proceeds, the excitement subsides and gets to a point where the line Tashan Mein seems too repetetive. There seems to be no continuity in the tune. If thats what was in their mind, then they achieved it. I wondered what Rahet was doing in this rock based song, but it made sense when I heard some alaps and Classical singing. But overall I'm not too impressed with this song. My least favorite from the album.

We also get to hear brief intros from each of the characters talking about tashans. I just heard it once and thought Bhaiyyaji's and Bachchan Pande's Tashan were the most interesting ones.

There were times when YRF banner came up with beautiful soundtracks with lot of songs, and mainly superhit songs. Its been missing for quite a while. And even in this album, barring two super cool songs Dil Haara and Dil Dance Maare, the rest are OK. Falak Tak might be included in good songs list, but the other two are mediocre. Vishal Sekhar are undoubtedly good composers but they have their strengths and weaknesses. Their songs are cool, trendy, with nice orchestration, but not consistent enough. And we don't expect that for Yash Raj movies.

My last aur Phinal word- moochik acha tha, par thoda more acha ho saktha tha. Nevertheless a honest attempt at creating a hatke album, VS almost had a winner, almost....

Ramu's last hope - Sarkar Raj

Well not last really, as his so called "Factory" dishes out 10 - 20 flop movies every year. But if he doesn't give one hit, he sure is in a big trouble.

After a series of bad movies and super duper flops, Ram Gopal Varma is back with the sequel to his 2005 career saving movie, Sarkar Raj. Personally I lost interest in his movies after his 2 brilliant movies Satya and Company. I never even cared to watch his Darna Mana hai or Zaroori hai movies...He should have named it Dekhna Mana hai. But Sarkar was kinda his style of movies. There was also good acting and great background music.

Lets see if he strikes gold with Sarkar Raj. Also we have aishu in this :)

VahRehVah - one of the best Indian Cooking Channels on youtube

Today I remembered the delicious Chettinad Chicken, which I used to have quite often at Karaikudi restaurant in Chennai. Just the thought of it was mouthwatering. So I decided to make it no matter what. I tried searching on the web to get recipes and tips as to how to make it. Then for some reason I was bored. I wanted someone to show me so that I can make exact replica of that. Also that way I know my progress and can achieve the end result as shown. Thats when I thought of the greatest site Youtube.

And thats how I came across the awesome Culinary Show by Sanjay, the host / VahChef of http://www.vahrehvah.com/

There are about 214 various Indian Dishes presented in his youtube channel. The best thing about this is he not only showcases the famous dishes like Chicken Tikka or Tandoori Chicken, but also several regional and quite unknown yummy ones such as coriander chicken, methi chicken, Grandma's curry chicken and last but not least my favorite Chettinad chicken. For all veggies there are many dishes too.

Here's the recipe that I followed -

And here's his youtube channel - http://youtube.com/profile?user=vahchef

I've introduced his videos to my wife and she loves it. Infact I got new energy to cook newer recipes. His presentation is also pretty cool. He takes his time and explains each and every detail as to why we do this, what happens when we put this, and so on. So for beginners and newbies to Indian cooking, this is a great channel, and for already experienced ones, you should certainly visit this site if you are bored with your cooking or wanna try something new. On the whole a very informative and entertaining culinary site which can bring lotsa fun to your everyday cooking.

Vah reh vah yemi tastu...chaala super ga undhi bossu

AR Rahman Live in Chennai Concert : April 20th, 2008

" Music is Change....and Change is Me " - AR Rahman

The concert, co-sponsored by Times of India, starts at 6.30 pm and is happening at the St. George school grounds opposite Pachaiyappa's College.

Go grab your tickets, if you still havn't !!!

Btw, I thought this was an awesome promo which brilliantly showcased the beauty of Chennai. The music was engaging, having all the elements of Carnatic, folk, and electronic...nice fusion as always from Rahman. Was that flute or nadaswaram used in the music ?? AR Rahman looks cool as usual. The Marina beach, Autos, Nadaswaram, Thavil, Temple, Pujari, streets, Dosai, Paati ( granny ), Metro, Coconut water, kids, Bharatnatyam, people waiting for Water....this IS the Chennai I grew in...this is where I belong. Now I miss my city :(

What's Rakesh Roshan Smokin ???

What do they mean by Rakesh Roshan exposing ? Wasn't it Ram Sampat who exposed the shit out of The Roshans ? Their shameless copying of Ram Sampath's Sony Ericcson Thump music in their Krazzy4 song is out in the open now. And what do they do now ? Well obviously they can't say that Ram's allegations are wrong and that they are ignorant of thump's music. Instead they take another route by saying they knew this music and infact liked it and even contacted Sony, which means poor Ram Sampath is now the culprit of accusing someone of copying his own song. What a joke !!!

Instead the best possible solution to this would have been to oust his own copycat brother Rajesh Roshan, who's been everything but original when it came to delivering music. We all know he gives horrible music to everyone other than his brother, and thus his non-popularity. But even the so-called hit music he gives to his bro is all complete plagiarized stuffs. His Haseena Gori Gori ( Its Summertime by Shaggy), Koyla music (Conquest of Paradise by Vangelis), or Dil na diya ( Inka Wayra ) are few of his popular direct lifts. And who cannot forget Mr. Rakesh's outright copy of Hollywood Classic E.T, Koi Mil Gaya. The only best thing Rakesh brought to Bollywood was/is his own son, the extremely talented Hrithik Roshan.

And thats where I was initially surprised as Hrithik is the brand ambassador of Sony Ericcson. Why couldn't he just tell his copycat uncle that the tune is a blatant copy and just ask him to make a new tune ?

Anyways I think its a very good lesson learnt by The Roshan's. They better be careful next time and not think that whatever they come across is theirs. There is something called Credit. And what does Rakesh mean by this line "This was a well planned scheme of making money. Having all the proof in my hand to defend, I was helpless for want of time."

What is well planned scheme of making money ? Isn't blatantly copying a 1989 Hollywood movie " The Dream Team" and releasing it as Krazzy4 a well planned scheme ? Isn't shameless copying a tune from a fellow Indian musician and not even crediting him and on top of that having superstars dancing to it a well planned scheme ???

Kudos to Ram Sampat who strangulated a biggie like Rakesh Roshan and made him pay the price. I'm sure the media will play a different tune sympathizing towards the Roshans and blaming Ram Sampath, but who cares. To me, Justice has been served.
